For several years now, German police has staged a speed trap marathon in spring. For 24 hours (or in the case of Bavaria, a full week) they would man every speed trap, radar gun etc. and go beserk. They say that this isn’t for revenue but to boost road safety and awareness of the dangers of speeding and so on. Hard to believe I know, but they also released all their control points beforehand via the internet, so if you got caught (like I did 2 years ago) it really was your own stupidity.

Well not 2016. Due to the sheer number of refugees arriving in Germany each day, they will skip this one.

I have a feeling the German people are just devastated...

Shows what a toll the Asylbewerber have on the police. A fight broke out in a housing unit for them near my parent’s house and it took something like 6 hours and 300 cops to get it straightened out

And it wasn’t the first one like that. Well if you cram 1500 men in a confined space and then let them rot for months without giving them anything to do, it’s no big wonder there will be tension.

Yep...I’m absolutely gutted. I had big plans to steal some plates and then try to hit every single trap in my area but oh well...maybe next year.

Absolutely. They may all be refugees but that doesn’t mean they get along.

My parents had to take in 180 this year and now the town is 50/50 on welcoming them or protesting them.

They’re about to convert the old Army base in the town into housing. It has everything they need - fences to keep them and protesters separate, kitchens, lots of rooms, gyms, etc.

That’s the problem. Right now there’s still a welcoming majority but all local communities are stretched pretty thin by now. If the numbers keep being as high as they are right now, the scales will tip and we will be in for some pretty ugly times.

I understand. Where my grandparents live (Oberpfalz near the Czech border) they’re welcoming.

Where my parents live (Darmstadt) everybody was/is an asshole to begin with (welcome to Hessen...) and now they’re checking for fake €10 bills at Aldi and demonstrating outside the Sozialamt in town.

I think Merkel realized she made a mistake accepting so many so fast, and i think a lot of people are accepting of them in public but show a different attitude after a few Hefeweizen in private.

Like i told my mom yesterday (she’s german, my dad’s american), next Fasching it will be “Halal” instead of “Halau.”
